Hi, Docs! Welcome to the EntreMD podcast where it is all about helping amazing physicians just like you embrace entrepreneurship so you can have the freedom to live life and practice medicine on your terms. I'm your host, Dr. Una.

Well, welcome back to another episode of The EntreMD Podcast! Super pumped as always, and I want to say to you this name, thank you so much for coming back again and again. And thank you for leaving reviews and thank you for sharing your success stories with me. I love to hear them. And I am rooting for you. Always. Right. Now we're going to have a really fun episode. Today I'm going to share some powerful lessons that I learned when I was on vacation in Dallas. But before we start, I want to share this amazing review left by a doctor for the EntreMD Podcast. This is from Beth OPKS, and she says game changer. Exclamation mark. I came across Dr. Una’s EntreMD Podcast when she was a recent guest on Bonnie Koo’s Wealthy Mom MD Podcast. I don't want to miss a thing. So I started from Dr. Una’s first episode, and I'm now hooked. She is inspiring, easy to listen to, and gives down to earth actionable tips which she supports with personal experiences and stories. I intend to explore her Facebook Group and join her tribe. Thanks now and in advance for all the value you're adding. I will add to my life and many other women physician entrepreneurs. Well, thank you so much, Beth. I don't know if we've met in the Facebook Group yet. But I am looking forward to this as well. And I'm rooting for you. And this is just the beginning of many great things to come. So thank you so much for this amazing review. Love it. Alright.

So today, we are going to be looking at drink, drive, and go to jail. And you're like Doctor Una, what in the world? But when I went to Texas, I saw a sign. And that's what he said, drink, drive and go to jail. I'm like, That's odd. I think I've seen many drink, don't drink and drive type signs, but never anything like that. So in Georgia, it just says don't drink and drive. Right? Don't do it. But they say drink drive, go to jail. And it made me think, right, about our businesses. Now think about it, the difference between those two statements, don't drink and drive and drink, drive and go to jail is that one tells you something you shouldn't do. The other tells you what you shouldn't do and tells you the consequence immediately. Right? And if you're I mean, like if you lived in Georgia don't drink and drive sounds like a suggestion. You know, I'll maybe I'll drink. I'm not saying I drink I'm saying you know, like, yeah, you know, but you go to Texas it’s like your choice. But if you drink and drive, you're going to jail. It's very different, because maybe you're kind of tempted to drink and drive. But the consequence is right there in front of you, like go to jail. Okay, so maybe it makes you think a little more because the consequence is right there. And as like, well, there's so many things we know we should do. And there's so many things we know we shouldn't do. But what if it was a complete statement that included the consequence? Would we think about it differently? Would we maybe take more action than we usually would? Would we not do the thing we shouldn't? I don't know. So let's take a look at it. Okay, so what if you know, you work in your business, and you're learning new stuff, you're learning about marketing, you're learning about selling, you're learning about doing videos, you're learning about building a team, you're taking courses, you're signing up for webinars, and you know, that you should be learning to do, but you find yourself just learning to learn, like you're learning more things, you can say more things, you can quote what great guru said what, but you're not doing any of them.

Right?

Dr. Una  4:08

But what if, instead of someone saying, after you learn something, take action. Right? What after you learn something take action? What if instead of that it was a statement, like, learn, but don't act and your business will stay exactly the same? Oh, my goodness, even saying that makes me go like, oops, I think there's some more things I should do in my business based on what I've learned, right? So learn, but don't act, and your business will stay exactly the same. The consequence is right there. So it makes you make better decisions, I think. Right. All right. So let's let's look at another one. So you know, that as adults, we like our comfort zone, right? Why are you not doing videos because it's uncomfortable putting myself out there. They're right. Why are you not selling? Because that's uncomfortable makes me feel like a sleazy used car salesman. Why haven't you started that business? Oh my God, my life is comfy. Like, that's so uncomfortable that it puts me in a difficult spot. What if I fail? What if I don't do well? Right? What if other people laugh at me? What would they say about a doctor who already earns multiple six figures? Who's going to start a business? Like what is wrong with you? Is just flat out uncomfortable? Right? Now I could tell you, you know, everything you're looking for is on the other side of your comfort zone. That's a statement and it's a valid statement is beautiful as a Facebook post, right? But what if instead of that, I said, stay comfortable. And you'll experience constant decline? You might say, Wait, wait, Dr. Una, I thought you say stay the same? Well, in life, you really are either going forward, or you're going backwards, right? Because if you're quote unquote, staying the same, your competition is going forward. So you're going backwards, you can't really stay the same, right? So the consequences not that you stay the same, the consequence is that you keep losing ground. Okay. So instead of saying, get out of your comfort zone, everything you're looking for is on the other side of your comfort zone, I say stay comfortable, and experienced constant decline, you probably go like, I don't want anything to do with constant decline. So I'm not going to stay comfortable. This will mean like the consequence is right there. Another example. Now, one of the things the biggest things I teach in the EntreMD Business School, or when I'm coaching clients, one on one is clarity. One of the things I help them get the most is clarity, okay?

Because in business, clarity, is everything. Like it's one of those tweaks like if you made it, it radically transforms everything. Okay, so clarity on what business am I in? Clarity on who is my ideal client? What is their pain? What is the outcome they want? What are the stories they tell themselves, when they wake up in the middle of the night and break out in a cold sweat because of the problem I solve? What are they thinking? Right? Not what do I think they need? But what are they thinking, the clearer I am about that, the better I can help them? The clearer I am about that, the better my marketing messages work, the clearer I am about that, the better my Facebook ads work. Do you see it's all about clarity. And this is just with, you know, with your marketing message, but it's every aspect of your business, the clearer you are.

Okay, so, and I could say, the clearer you are, the faster your ideal clients will find you. Right, the clearer you are, the faster people will say yes, because a confused mind doesn't buy, I could say that. Or I could say be vague and get a few clients. Right? What did I just do? I added the consequence. And the reason why I'm giving all these examples is because I think this is a really great way to think, you know, what is the action? What is the consequence right behind it? So let's do one more. Okay. Now, one of the things doctors like the least, um, well, most doctors is selling, right? Like, I don't want to sell. And that was me, like sell like, I'm a professional. We don't do stuff like that. And I'm going to pause here and say, Listen, if you think about selling, and it gives you goosebumps, and makes you feel weird and awkward and is gross and all of that. What that means is that you've been exposed to people who've done selling the wrong way. Okay. So yes, there's bad selling, but there's also good selling and there's professional selling, and there's selling to serve. And there's, it's a beautiful thing, it's not a bad thing, okay, it's not a bad thing at all. Because I've met many doctors who have really great products, really great services, really great courses, really great private practices. And nobody's using those services. And they can't find people to serve, because they don't know how to sell, but they have great stuff. So for your ideal clients, one of the best things, one of the best ways you serve them is by selling, right? Giving them the opportunity to work with you giving them the opportunity to sign up so you can serve them. Right. So selling is not bad. All right.

There's a whole episode on help. I hate selling and I'll link to it in the show notes. You should check it out. And if that's a challenge that you have, you want to start working on that. But the bottom line is your business will be the world's best kept secret if you won't sell. Okay, and there's no mean, there's no point, having a great service that nobody's using, because you created it to serve. That's the whole idea behind it. So I could tell you, that you have to sell. So you can serve sounds really cool, right? You have to sell so you can serve, you have to sell, so you can stop being the world's best kept secret. Or I could act like I'm from Dallas, Texas, and I can say, don't sell and go bust. Right? Like, you know, drink, drive and go to jail, I can just say, don't sell and go bust. So I'm not going to make any of these Dallas inspired quotes, Facebook posts, because it's like rrr, you know, but it's a great way of thinking. And it's not just for your business is every aspect of your life. Right? You know, don't work out a hit your body in a year. I mean, like, you know what I mean? Like, it's just right, it's just right there. You know, don't save, don't invest and depend on your kids to take care of you in 20 years, like, the consequences, right? What is the cost of me saying yes, what is the cost of me saying no, and it makes your decision making so much better. So I want you to start thinking these ways, there is an action, what is the consequence of taking the action? What is the consequence of inaction, and it will help you make a lot better decisions. And it will help you overcome your fears. Because the truth of the matter is, you may be afraid of selling, what are you more afraid of selling, or never building that business? By being on your bed at 90, and realizing you never started that business, you never scale it which fear is bigger. And if you are clear on the consequences, then you realize that the fear of the consequences is actually higher than the fear of the action, and it helps you make the right decision. So what are you more afraid of getting out of your comfort zone? Or staying the same? Can you imagine after 40 years? Your life? You have the same set of skills, the same level of wisdom, the same? Like the same everything? That's awful. Right? So what is worse? What some naysayer will say? Or you being exactly the same? So consequences. So this is what I want you to do. I want you to have a Come to Jesus conversation with yourself today. And you're going to look at the things you're saying no to that you know, you should say yes to what are the consequences? You know, you should be putting yourself out there, you know that you're on cruise control of your business, because you're not putting yourself out there. If you put yourself out there, things will change. So what is the consequence of not putting yourself out there? You're like, I don't, I'm not selling? I'm not gonna do that. That was my decision. When I first started as an entrepreneur, I'm not doing that. Then you sit and have a conversation, what is the consequence of that decision that I made? And then make a new decision? Right? I'm not going to learn anymore, I'm not going to do I'm not going to get a coach, I'm not going to do any courses. I'm not going to do that. It doesn't take all that you sit down and have a conversation with yourself and say, What is the consequence of that? What is the consequence? What am I giving up because of that? What will I not have access to because of that, and then you make a quality decision to do what you need to do to say yes to what you need to say yes to, okay. But imagine instead of your decisions just happening, and being reactionary, that you become proactive, and by your decisions, you intentionally create a life that you love. Because now you don't just think in terms of, Oh, yeah, I'm afraid of that or whatever. You're now thinking cause and effect cause and effect, cause and effect. Oh, my gosh, you'll make your brilliant decision maker and make your life beautiful. Okay. So have the Come to Jesus meeting, make some decisions, say yes to what you need to say yes to start saying no to things you should say no to. And I cannot wait to celebrate your success. So thank you for listening, and I'll see you on the next episode of the EntreMD Podcast.
